Ranking System

WHAT IS THE TRI NATION RANKING SYSTEM?

It is designed to allow individual athletes and triathlon clubs the ability to see how they compare against others in their state and across the nation. Individuals will be ranked on the state and national level in Full, Half, Olympic, and Sprint distance events. Clubs will be ranked based upon the points earned by each of its members. Ranked races must be timed and open to all competitiors.

HOW ARE POINTS DETERMINED?

Points will be awarded based on the position you place in your age group for each event raced. Also, you will be awarded points for your overall gender placement in each event. You must finish an event in order to get points. Your top finishes for each distance will be used to determine your final ranking.

WHAT IF THERE’S A TIE?

INDIVIDUALS
In the event of a tie in the Full or Half distance race standings the winner will be decided by the best average time of their top two finishes. In the event of a sprint tie the average swim, bike, and run pace for the top 5 finishes will be plugged into the following: 500/m swim, 17 mile bike, 3.1 mile run. Whoever comes out with the fastest time would be the sprint champion. An Olympic tie will be handled the same way as a sprint tie only pace times will be plugged into 1500m swim, 24.9 bike, 6.2 mile run.

CLUBS
In the unlikely event of a tie in the mega, large, medium, or small club divisions the club who participated in the greatest number of events by the end of the season will be named the winner. This will encourage and reward total club participation.

WILL INDOOR EVENTS COUNT?

NO. Indoor events will not be allowed for ranking purposes even if the distances are the same as the Sprint, Olympic, Half, or Full distances.

WHAT IF THERE ARE PRO'S IN A RACE?

If there are professionals racing in an event they may be excluded from the overall gender placement. If the official results don't differentiate pros from other racers then you will have to use the gender placement from the official results.

WHAT IF I RACE DIFFERENT DISTANCES?

Ranked races are Full, Half, Olympic, and Sprint. If you race any distance or race type other than these it must not be posted. You will need to post your results to the appropriate distance you raced. If you race the four different distances during the year you will be ranked in each of the different categories. You may not combine your ranking. If you race a Full, Half, Olympic, or Sprint it must be entered under that specific race type.

CLYDESDALE, ATHENA, FAT TIRE & ALL OTHER NON AGE GROUP CATEGORY RESULTS.

For ranking purposes if you race in a Clydesdale, Athena, Fat tire or other non age group division in an event you will need to take your event time and compare it to the appropriate age group category you would have raced in had these divisions not been available. Example, you're 30 years old and race in a sprint as an athena, clyde, fat tire, etc with a time of 1:17:23. You would take this time and plug it in to your appropriate (30-34) age group to determine your overall age group position for the event. If other racers in your category (clyde, athena, fat tire etc) had a better time than you they would place ahead of you in the age group and overall standings as well. At this time only age group rankings should be applied towards each individuals rank.

HOW ARE TRI CLUB POINTS EARNED?

If you’re a member of a tri club your individual points earned will be added to your designated clubs ranking. When you post your results on your member page you will need to make sure and select the club you are a member of. If you’re a member of a club you will still appear in the individual state and national rankings.

If you’re a member of a tri club your individual points earned will be added to your designated clubs ranking.

If you’re a member of a club you will still appear in the individual rankings. All race results from each team member will determine the teams overall ranking.

WHAT'S THE TRI NATION ONLINE CLUB CUP?

Triathlon clubs will be competing for the Tri Nation Online Club Cup. This trophy will be awarded at the end of each season to each of the four division winners. The Cup will be sent to the club president or other authorized cabinet member for each division winner. Clubs must begin entering race results before September 1st or they will not be elibigle for the Club Cup title or prize money.

WHAT ARE TEAM DIVISIONS?

The size of your club will determine which division you compete in. See the following:
Small 1-49 club members
Medium 50-99 club members
Large 100-199 club members
Mega 200+ club members

WHAT IF I JOIN OR LEAVE A CLUB MID SEASON?

In the event you leave your club during the season the points earned while you were a member will stay with that club. If you join a new club only the events you compete in after joining will count towards club standings. If you have never been a member of a club and join mid season only points earned after joining will count towards club standings.

HOW CAN I QUICKLY VIEW MY RANKING?

After joining you may view your overall Sprint, Olympic, Half, and Full standings on your member page. It will display your number of points for each distance and your state and national rank for each distance. Clubs will have the same information displayed on their club page.

HOW LONG IS THE RANKING SEASON?

The ranking season will begin March 1st each calendar year and conclude November 15th. Events that you race in during this time that you enter on your member page will count towards your ranking. Results must be entered by the November 15th cutoff to count. No exceptions will be given, even if the race took place before the 15th.

HOW ARE EVENT RESULTS ENTERED?

All of the event results will be input by each member. They will be input on your member profile page. The information needed will include the date of event, name of event, age group raced, your gender position, and overall position. If you’re a member of a tri club you would select the club you belong to. You will be responsible for keeping your records current and accurate.
